The number of "Ikumen" is on the rise. "Ikumen" refers to fathers who actively participate in child-rearing. Recently, many fathers attend school entrance ceremonies and open-classroom days, and there are even (Note 1) stay-at-home husbands. However, the percentage of men taking childcare leave is only 1.23%, which is extremely low compared to Western countries. According to statistics, the more cooperative fathers are in child-rearing, the higher the birth rate. Troubled by the declining birth rate, the government revised the "Childcare and (Note 2) Family Care Leave Law" to encourage fathers to participate in childcare. Although childcare leave had previously been granted to men, this revision makes it even easier to take. In reality, however, without the understanding of the workplace, it would be impossible to take even a single day off. Unless the work environment changes, this law will undoubtedly end up as pie in the sky.
