It has been announced in the United States that there is a relationship between walking speed and lifespan. Apparently, the faster a person can walk, the longer they live. Since the study was conducted over 21 years on more than 30,000 elderly people, it is quite reliable. The act of walking engages all bodily functions. When walking quickly, the heart, lungs, and of course the muscles must work more actively than usual. If any of these are in poor condition, one cannot walk fast.
Therefore, it is beyond doubt that walking speed serves as an indicator of health. From these research findings, we can understand that it is natural for the physical functions of the elderly to decline and for their movements to slow down.
