When my daughter was a high school student, she had a small doll hanging from her bag, so I asked her, "What kind of charm is that?" She replied, "It's a lucky item, and if I wear it, my test scores will improve." She seemed to believe it, saying, "In fact, my score on the recent midterm exam was good, so it works." So I made a prediction: "Even if you wear something like that, you'll definitely get bad grades on the next test." And just as I predicted, my daughter's final exam results were terrible, proving that the lucky item had no effect.
So, I explained to her, "Your actual ability is around 70 points. However, humans have ups and downs; sometimes you might get 90 points, and other times only 40 points. You probably bought the lucky item out of desperation because your score on the previous final exam was below your ability. However, since that was simply a slump where you couldn't demonstrate your true ability, whether you bought a lucky item or not, your next score would naturally go up if you performed according to your usual ability. That was the recent midterm exam. Your scores were simply fluctuating above and below your average. Because you misunderstood this and seemed to study less, believing that wearing a lucky charm would improve your grades, I was able to predict that your scores would definitely drop."
Life has its ups and downs; if there is a peak, a valley will eventually come, and if there is a valley, a peak will eventually follow. Even if you fall into a valley, do not panic; just wait, as the time to escape the valley will come naturally. However, people who believe in suspicious religions or rely on lucky items do not seem to understand this obvious fact. When they fall into a valley, they feel cornered and resort to relying on gods or lucky items. Eventually, as time passes, the period in the valley leaves and the peak arrives, but they end up believing that it was thanks to God or the lucky item.
