In a certain country, there is a special expression that means "eating a meal alone." This is not because it is a common occurrence, but because it is rare. Behind this lies the idea that meals are meant to be eaten with others. However, isn't it true—not just for people of that country—that eating together with others is more enjoyable than eating alone? Yet, it is said that in Japan today, the number of people who do not eat with others is increasing. They think nothing of eating alone; in fact, they feel uncomfortable eating with people.
