一つの仕事をやるについて、いろいろな選択肢があり、その中に「今までどおりやる」というのがあると。放っておけば、ほとんどの人はそのやり方をとるでしょう。それでそこそこの成果があがるのだから、なにも未知の方法に挑んで苦労することはないというわけです。 それがべストの方法かどうか、あるいはほかにもっと能率的にできる方法があるかもしれないのに、①そういうことは考えもせず、ひたすら②一番楽な従来どおりのやり方を続けていこうとする。人間には習性として、そういう傾向があるものです。 しかし、そのようにやり方が決まってしまうと、みんなものを考えなくなって、たとえそのやり方が時代に合わなくなってきても、おかしいとも思わなくなってしまいます。 こうなると、もはやその組織に進歩はありません。下手をすれば、時代遅れの組織になって、競争に負けてしまうでしょう。官庁病とか大企業病などと言われるように、組織というのは放っておくと、それこそあっという間に動脈硬化状能におちいってしまうものなのです。 とくに管理者は、いまのやり方でいいのか、時代に合っているか、もっと能率的な方法があるのではないか……いかなる種類の仕事であっても、そのことを常に考えていかなければなりません。
