"Bicycles"
Bicycles are convenient and do not pollute the air. Long ago, when I went to China, I was surprised by how many bicycles there were. However, speaking of bicycles, one must not forget the Netherlands. The Netherlands is the world's leading bicycle country. Although its land area and population are only about 10% of Japan's, it is said to be number one in the world whether you look at how many bicycles each person owns or consider the length of bicycle lanes. It seems that a major factor is that the country is structured so that bicycles can be used easily anywhere.
In the Netherlands, trains are designed so that you can bring bicycles on board. Also, train stations are accessible for bicycles. Furthermore, it is said that if you commute to work by bicycle, you can even get paid.
In Japan, too, many people use bicycles, but various problems have arisen. For example, many bicycles are parked on the streets in front of stations where parking is prohibited, becoming an obstacle. Also, because there are hardly any dedicated bike lanes, it is dangerous and bothersome to pedestrians walking on the street.
Although voices are being raised saying, "Let's ride bicycles more," ( ), the number of people using them probably will not increase.
