"Walking"
When I was young, I ( ) walking. I didn't walk in special places. When I had to go somewhere, I often got off at the station one stop before my destination. Then, I would walk while looking at a map. If there were temples, shrines, or parks along the way, I would drop by.
One day, in the pond of a small temple I entered, I found *ancient lotuses blooming. I had heard about them, but I didn't know that temple had them too. Surely, other people didn't know either. Since I had wanted to see them for a long time, I was very happy.
After returning home, it was also a joy to color the paths I walked in red pencil while recalling them. Since most of the places I had errands at were within Tokyo, almost the whole map of Tokyo became walked.
The farthest I ever walked was when I was 22 years old. A friend and I decided to walk to Kamakura.
We left home at 12 midnight, walking so fast at first that it was almost like running. I thought we could reach easily this way, but I was wrong. Kamakura was over 50 kilometers away from my house, so I gradually grew tired. We walked along the edge of a wide road, but because cars drove by without end, the air quality was poor. When we had walked about 75% of the way, I became exhausted and wanted to rest. After sitting on the road to rest, when I tried to walk, my legs wouldn't move. It took several minutes before I could walk normally again. This was my first time experiencing such a thing. I realized that when you are truly exhausted, you shouldn't sit down. After that, I decided to rest while standing. Before reaching Kamakura, the road went up a little and then down. Because I was tired, going uphill was tough. Even so, I didn't stop midway and walked all the way to Kamakura. It took about 12 hours, and by the time we arrived, it was noon.
Now, I walk leisurely around places. Walking while looking at the flowers and trees planted in gardens has become my pleasure.
