1. ~わりに(は) (For... / Considering... / Compared with...)

Sentence Pattern
Noun N + の + わりに(は)
Plain form + わりに(は)
* Na-adjective だ -> な / である

Meaning: When something is taken as a standard for comparison, the actual degree or result differs from what would normally be expected.
✓ Often used with things whose degree can vary, such as age, price, time, or level of worry.
✓ The following clause gives an evaluation that does not match, or contrasts with, the natural expectation from the first clause.

2. ~にしては (For... / Considering that... / Despite being...)

Sentence Pattern
Noun N / Plain form + にしては
* Na-adjective だ -> である / Danh từ N だ -> である (Or attach にしては directly to N)

Meaning: Compared with a specific fact or clear standard, the actual result differs considerably from what people would normally expect.
✓ Unlike わりに, にしては often follows specific, clearly defined standards such as February, 1,000 yen, a child, or a foreigner, rather than general scales like age or price.
✓ The following clause expresses an evaluation or impression contrary to normal expectations.

3. ~だけ(のことは)ある / ~だけあって (As expected of... / No wonder...)

Sentence Pattern
Noun N / Plain form + だけ(のことは)ある / だけあって
* Na-adjective だ -> な

Meaning: The result matches what one would expect from the stated condition or background; it is fully deserved or understandable.
✓ What follows always carries praise or a positive evaluation.
✓ It is not used for speculation or expectations about the future; it is used only to evaluate facts that already exist or are currently true.

4. ~として (As... / In the role or capacity of...)

Sentence Pattern
Noun (N) + として

Meaning: To perform an action in a particular capacity, position, role, or status.
✓ The following part contains an action, attitude, or evaluation related to that role or status.

5. ~にとって (For... / From the standpoint of...)

Sentence Pattern
Noun (N) + にとって

Meaning: From the viewpoint or perspective of a particular person or organization, one makes an evaluation or judgment about something.
✓ Mainly follows nouns referring to people or institutions/organizations.
✓ The following clause always expresses an evaluation such as important, indispensable, difficult, etc.; it does not express an action.

Breast milk is important for a baby’s development.

6. ~にしたら / ~にすれば / ~にしてみれば / ~にしても (From someone else’s point of view...)

Sentence Pattern
Noun referring to a person (N) + にしたら / にすれば / にしてみれば / にしても

Meaning: If one puts oneself in another person’s position or perspective, one can understand or infer that person’s feelings and thoughts.
✓ Normally used with a third person or the other party, not with the speaker themself.
✓ The following clause expresses an inference or empathy concerning the feelings or thoughts of the person whose standpoint is being considered.

生徒せいとと学生がくせいにすれば、宿題しゅくだいは少すくなければ少すくないほどいいだろう。
