くたびれる(草臥れる)

to get tired, to be worn out, to be exhausted

長時間ちょうじかん歩あるいて、すっかりくたびれてしまった。

→ Having walked for a long time, I was completely worn out.

ばてる(果てる)

to be utterly exhausted, to be worn out

夏なつの暑あつさでばててしまった。

→ I was completely drained and exhausted by the summer heat.

ぐったり[と]する

limp, dead tired (to collapse with fatigue)

犬いぬが暑あつさでぐったりしている。

→ The dog is lying limp on the ground from the heat.

過労かろう

overwork, strain from working too much

過労死かろうしは日本にほんの深刻しんこくな社会しゃかい問題もんだいだ。

→ Death from overwork (karoshi) is a grave social issue in Japan.

to decline, to weaken, to decay

祖父そふは視力しりょくが衰おとろえて、新聞しんぶんが読よめなくなった。

→ My grandfather's eyesight has deteriorated so much he can no longer read newspapers.

病気びょうきで体からだが弱よわってしまった。

→ My body grew feeble and weak due to illness.

haggard, emaciated, suddenly thin

入院にゅういん中ちゅうにげっそり痩やせてしまった。

→ While hospitalized, I lost weight rapidly and became haggard.

to be inferior to, to fall behind

この製品せいひんは品質ひんしつで他社たしゃに劣おとらない。

→ This product is by no means inferior to competitors in terms of quality.

to stagger, to wobble, to feel dizzy

貧血ひんけつでふらつくことがある。

→ There are times when I stagger due to anemia.

→ My consciousness was dim and hazy due to the high fever.

将来しょうらいについて漠然ばくぜんとした不安ふあんを感かんじる。

→ I feel a vague and formless anxiety about the future.

in vain, uselessly, aimlessly

いたずらに不安ふあんをあおるべきではない。

→ One should not stir up anxiety uselessly and in vain.
