As if..., It looks like..., It seems that...
Describes a situation that appears to be or feels as if it were a certain way (but in reality, it is not). Often used together with the adverb まるで.

Perhaps he was tired, as it seemed as if he had fallen asleep while still sitting in the chair.

2. ~ように (Comparison of similarity)

普通形 (N/Aだ - な / である) + ように

Meaning: Just like..., like...
Implies comparing something that is relatively similar to something else. Points out a similarity.

Meaning: In order to..., so that..., hoping that...
* Uses verbs that do not express the speaker's volition (Intransitive verbs / Potential verbs / V-nai).

Used to imply or express an indirect command, request, or reminder.
