Part 1: ~んです
* Guessing or confirming information based on what you hear or see.
* Wanting the speaker to provide more information about what you have heard or seen.
* Wanting the listener to explain the reason for what you have heard or seen (Using どうして ~んですか。).
* Wanting the listener to explain a situation.
* Note: Used when you want to know more about specific information; inappropriate use may cause discomfort to the listener.
**2. ~んです。**
* Stating a reason, giving an additional reason for what was previously stated (Because ~).
* Note: Not used for stating simple facts.
B: ええ、15さいまで 大阪に 住んでいました。
→ ① A: B, you sometimes use the Osaka dialect. Did you use to live in Osaka? B: Yes, I lived in Osaka until I was 15.
→ ② Those shoes have an interesting design. Where did you buy them?
→ ③ Why are you late?
B: おなかが いたいんです。
→ ④ A: What's wrong? B: I have a stomachache.
B: バスが 来なかったんです。
→ ⑤ A: Why are you late? B: Because the bus didn't come.
B: いいえ、あまり 行きません。カラオケが 好きじゃないんです。
→ ⑥ A: Do you go to Karaoke often? B: No, I don't go often. I don't like Karaoke.
Part 2: ~Vていただけませんか (Could you please V ~ for me?)
Politely requesting someone to do something for you. Used for superiors or strangers. It is a more polite way of saying 「Vてください」.
B: ええ、いいですよ。
→ ① A: I'm having a party at my house tomorrow. Could you please come and help me? B: Yes, of course.
B: ええ、近所にいい先生が いますから、紹介しましょう。
→ ② A: I want to learn flower arrangement. Could you please introduce me to a teacher? B: Yes, there's a good teacher in my neighborhood, so I'll introduce you.
Part 3: ~たら いいですか (Should I V ~?)
Used to ask for or give advice.
B: ごみ置き場は 駐車場のよこですよ。
→ ① A: I want to throw away garbage. Where should I put it out? B: The garbage area is next to the parking lot.
B: 先生に 申し込んだら いいと思います。
→ ② A: I want to visit the newspaper company. What should I do? B: I think you should apply with your teacher.
