Embedding a sentence containing an interrogative word (疑問詞ぎもんし) into another sentence.
Example Sentences (2)
ビールは何本なんぼんありますか。数かぞえてください。 → ビールは何本なんぼんあるか、数かぞえてください。

→ How many bottles of beer are there? Please count them. → Please count how many bottles of beer there are.

A: 二次会はどこへ行きましたか。A: にじかいは どこへ いきましたか。
B: 酔よっていたので、どこへ行 いったか、全然覚ぜんぜん おぼえていないんです。

→ A: Where did you go for the after-party? B: Because I was drunk, I don't remember at all where we went.

Part 2: 〜か どうか 〜

〜か どうか 〜
Whether ~ or not.
Embedding a sentence without an interrogative word (疑問詞ぎもんし) into another sentence. It is necessary to add "どうか" after the "plain form (普通形ふつうけい) + か".
Example Sentences (2)
A: 今度のマラソン大会に参加しますか。A: こんどの マラソンたいかいに さんかしますか。
B: 参加さんかするか、どうか、まだ決 きめていません。

→ A: Are you going to participate in the marathon this time? B: I haven't decided yet whether I will participate or not.

A: あの店はおいしいですか。A: あのみせは おいしいですか。
B: おいしいかおいしくないか分かりません。入ったことがありませんから。B: おいしいか おいしくないか わかりません。はいったことが ありませんから。

→ A: Is that restaurant delicious? B: I don't know whether it's delicious or not. Because I have never been in there.

The verb (動詞どうし) 「みる」 can be conjugated into appropriate grammatical patterns.
Example Sentences (2)
A: このくつは合うかどうか、はいてみてもいいですか。A: このくつは あうかどうか、はいてみても いいですか。
B: はい、どうぞ。

→ A: May I try on these shoes to see if they fit or not? B: Yes, please go ahead.

今日、ぼくはケーキを作ってみますよ。きょう、ぼくは ケーキを つくってみますよ。

→ Today, I will try to make a cake.

Part 4: Aい → Aさ

Aい → Aさ
Changing i-Adjectives (形容詞けいようし) to Nouns (名詞めいし).
When you drop the 「い」 from an i-adjective (形容詞けいようし) and add 「さ」, you get a noun (名詞めいし) meaning "degree of ~".
* 重おもい (heavy) → 重おもさ (weight)
* 大おおきい (big) → 大おおきさ (size)
* 小ちいさい (small) → 小ちいささ (smallness)
* 長ながい (long) → 長ながさ (length)
* 高たかい (high/tall) → 高たかさ (height)
Example Sentences (2)
このはこの長さはどのくらいか、はかってみます。この はこの ながさは どのくらいか、はかってみます。

→ I will try to measure what the length of this box is.

この荷物の重さは5キロ以下かどうか、はかってみてください。この にもつの おもさは 5キロいかかどうか、はかってみて ください。

→ Please try weighing this luggage to see if it is under 5 kilos or not.
